NigeriaMRS
The Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) with technical support from the University of Maryland(UMB) implements the standardized Electronic Medical Record (EMRs) in collaboration with the State Ministries of Health (SMOH) and the Implementing Partners.
The program aims to provide a standardized/unified electronic medical record in health facilities across the country, to further support the HIV program in Nigeria.
Prior to this, health facilities across the country had different EMRs for managing patient information. Issues stemming from compatibility and data exchange were evident in these heterogeneous systems leading to the development of a unified EMR system.
These efforts birthed the Nigeria MRS, an EMR system derived from Open MRS, an open-source electronic medical record system designed for use in developing countries. It is currently in use across over 1000 PEPFAR & GoN-supported facilities in 21 states.
