Welcome to the Sandbox
The Global Informatics Collaborative (GIC) Sandbox is a collaborative environment that enables stakeholders to learn about, explore, experiment with, and share products, solutions, and experiences for digital health.
The Sandbox is the platform that both supports and disseminates products developed by the Technical Assistance Platform (TAP) GIC.
TAP supports the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) countries and the overall global community in defining and directing shared global goods to implement and maintain informatics savvy organizations to support the management of health conditions that are significantly impacting the wellbeing of people across the world (e.g., HIV, COVID-19, and more).
Data Integration Strategies and Implementation (DISI)
The main goal of the DISI approach is to integrate patient data from different sources in order to create a single, accurate, longitudinal patient record that supports improved patient care.
OpenMRS HIV Reference Implementation (OHRI)
The goal of OHRI is to provide a standards-based, generic electronic medical record application based on OpenMRS supporting delivery of high-quality HIV services, incorporating best programmatic, technological, standards and data management practices.
Overall Health Information Systems Support (OHISS)
The goal of the OHISS initiative is to enable the development, implementation, assessment, and customization of a) policy, governance and standards for health information systems, b) human resources, and c) health information exchange to support digital health in countries.

Know exactly what you’re looking for?
If you’ve been here before, and you know exactly what product, document, or template you need then please search the Product Library directly for the fastest way to find what you want.
How we can help depends on who you are
The Sandbox audience is broad and varied and our products serve audiences depending on their needs and stage of implementation or support.
We are a team looking to get started with Data Integration
I’m a developer and I want to find technical implementation details
I am looking for support from global experts on open-source products
I’ve been here before and I’m looking for a specific TAP product and I know its name
I want to learn more about applying the available TAP products to the real world
I’m interested in successful informatics projects and how TAP products helped
Introducing the HIS Project Management Toolkit
Manage your Health Information Systems (HIS) projects and interventions leveraging the best practices captured in the HIS Project Management (HIS PM) Toolkit
Explore a country case study
Nakanda, a fictitious country, uses health information systems (HIS) products developed by the GIC to develop a robust case surveillance system.
The development of HIS products for global use is supported by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) TAP central mechanism under the terms of a cooperative agreement. These products are solely the responsibility of the funding recipients and do not necessarily reflect the views of the United States Government.
